This is a summary of how to learn more effectively according to Razi Thalib’s lecture
If you ever feel like it’s so 😱hard to learn something new. It means you’re really learning.
If it’s so easy to learn. There is something that’s not right with the way we study.
So, here are a few recommendations to learn.

Personalized Notes

Everyone writes differently. Use your own language and paraphrase what you have learned.

Copy-pasting is not suggested because it means you just simply transcribe what the lecturer says.
It is easier to just write everything we heard. Personalized notes in another hand, is harder because they need understanding and require a thinking process.
However, it’s way much better for our learning experience in the long term.

Add Visual Touch

It says that the brain grasps images faster than text.
Rather than dancing on TokTok, you can enhance your creativity in writing which can be beneficial for yourself and others.

Symbols or illustrations in your notes can help to connect ideas and understand faster than text-only notes.
It also makes your notes more refreshing. And in the end, you are willing to read them.

Recall The Material

Recalling is more suggested than just re-reading.
It can train your brain to retrieve and remember better what you have learned.

If you want to review what you just learn, try to recall it first.
If it doesn’t work, then you can open your notes and see what’s missing.
This way, you can develop a good learning habit to rely on your memory first. Hence, strengthening the material you have learned.

The Myth of Learning

#1
The more notes, the better
Take a few notes that are important. Notes suggested can summarize the whole material in a short form (key insight)
#2
Certification = skill
Treat certification as a break session to test what we have learned so far. It also can measure how much understanding we have in a certain field.
#3
Using 1 study technique either visual, auditory, or kinesthetic
It is suggested to combine every study technique. Experimenting to know what’s better and which is more suitable for our learning style.
It is also suggested to learn by
  • Teaching the materials to others
  • Create a blog or write the ideas
  • Discussion and active in the class
